This is what I consider the most fulfilling event FRV hosts each year. It’s always a pleasure to help out and the kids are incredibly grateful. Please consider volunteering and being a positive influence in these boys lives!

I’m a big fan of Shimano. Don’t have personal experience with either reel you’re looking at, but know plenty of people that seem to like both. I use 400Bs and a Conquest for everything. 🙂 If you’re on Facebook, there are lots of posts on groups out there with similar questions. Hopefully some members of FRV weigh in on your question here though.

Very sorry to hear the news. My first year after joining FRV, Russ introduced me to him at the Musky Show. I don’t claim to know him well at all, but you’re right that he’s done a lot for our club! I hope everything goes well with his treatments and that we’re all able to help him out a bit.

Found this article that seems relatively balanced in giving both sides of the issue.

    https://www.echopress.com/sports/outdoors/4423673-local-reaction-muskies-return-legislative-forefront

Allowing spearing and lowering the length limit on “non-muskellunge lakes” sounds fine to me. But it doesn’t make sense. Is this just covering lakes that are illegally stocked? Their definition covers lakes where musky are indigenous or stocked. How else would the fish get into a lake and be present for this provision to be needed?

I’m not sure why Campion doesn’t want more studies done. I understand that there’s already info out there, but if they want to pile on more data to support that muskies don’t destroy an ecosystem, then let them do it.

Overall, the wording of the bill is clearly pushing personal agendas vs. any real concern about the environment.

Todd, can you explain your comment about the difference between those who fish Northern Wisconsin vs. Northern Minnesota? I’m trying to figure out if I should be offended or not… (Serious question though. Would like to understand what you mean.)

Thanks for posting. I hadn’t heard many updates on the carp issue, so it’s good to hear it’s going well! Glad I’m not at school being fed “silverfin” though…guess I shouldn’t knock it if I haven’t tried it.

My family also enjoyed the banquet. My boys were excited about placing in the multi-species contest (don’t be fooled by Charlie bursting into tears when he was called up to get his plaque…he’s been showing it to anyone and everyone that stops at the house since Saturday).

Also, a big thank you to Terry who kindly gave my boys the gigantic teddy bear and the smaller teddy bear! They’ve had a great time playing with that thing though they can barely move it. 🙂

My 14 year old niece is also really excited about the door prize she won…I think she’s starting a new trend at the high school decorating her room with statues of deer.

Never discuss religion, politics or musky with the general public. People don’t want to be educated and anything other than what they’ve determined to be the truth is insulting to them. Even within the musky fishing community…people get into heated arguments over how to hold a fish. Some rookie posts a picture to a Facebook group and MI is immediately labeled as a high and mighty elitist group that forces their opinions on everyone when someone tries to offer a suggestion to take a little better care of the fish.

Tim, even if you had tried to offer some information or a different perspective in a friendly manner, that guy was already pissed off and probably wouldn’t have been receptive.

Todd is absolutely correct that most of this is people trying to “save their lake” in MN and keep people off it. They start fear mongering in order to get support for their specific interest. You know what? We all have our bias. I want jet skis off the lakes I like to fish and anyone else that lacks common courtesy regardless of what they’re fishing for.
